HEAVEN IS A SMALL TOWN (Craig Monday, Chris Wallin)

He was dead a good 3 minutes when the doctor’s brought him back
They called him a fighter, I called him Uncle Jack
When they took us back to see him they said the morphine’s kickin’ in
He’s been tellin’ us some tall tales, just listen here he goes again… and Jack said

I just came from somewhere with gold dusty roads
I was walkin’ toward a bright porch light the angels leave on
There were no gangs or prisons, no graffiti on the walls
Just some blood red paint on a water tower that reads “Jesus loves us all”
And all my life I thought it’d be a big place
But I know better now… heaven is a small town

He said grandma and grandpa were up there sittin’ in the shade
But grandma’s hands weren’t shakin and grandpa’s back was straight
Then Jack looked right at me
And he said I saw your mama and she said to tell you
Remember just the other day when that music box she gave you
Played amazing grace out of the blue
That was her singin’ to you

And I knew he just came from from somewhere with gold dusty roads
He’d been walkin’ towards a bright porch light the angel’s leave on
He said the church house there was empty ’cause nobody has to pray
God just lives right down the street, they talk to him face to face
And here all my life I thought it’d be a big place
But one day we’ll all find out… heaven is a small town

There’s no gangs or prisons, no graffiti on the walls, just some blood red paint on a water tower that reads “Jesus loves us all”

CRAIG MONDAY'S FULL BIO

With his pure country voice and youthful charm, Craig Monday, from Luttrell, TN, may have taken the long way to reach this point in his career, but feels he is exactly where he’s meant to be.

Monday, who first picked up a guitar in the sixth grade says, “I remember being blown away by Richie Sambora of Bon Jovi and thinking man that really looks cool.” At age 16, after listening to his share of rock music, he was inspired to become a songwriter.

“I was writing songs based on things that are happening in my life, writing with the intentions of
composing a great rock song, but everything comes out always sounding country,” admits Monday.  Making the move to Music City in ‘96, Monday has been featured at ASCAP’s Country Music Awards and performed his apropos tune, “This Song Ain’t Free,” before Congress.

Craig's song, "Heaven is a Small Town," was the inspiration for the creation of Adroit Records.  When label president and producer Jim Tract heard Craig perform the song at the Bluebird in Nashville, the audience gasped, and then applauded the first time Craig sang the chorus. "I was stunned," said Tract,  "It was very, very special. I became obsessed with making sure  people got to hear this song, and one thing just led to another."

Craig adds, “Just seeing someone like your songs, follow you to shows and keep showing up at your performances is amazing, There’s nothing more exciting than knowing someone likes what you do.

Craig is cultivating an extensive hit catalog including Kenny Chesney’s, “Got a Little Crazy,” Diamond Rio’s “The Power of a Song,” Mark Wills’ “My Second 16,” Jamey Johnson’s “Lead Me Home,” as well as tracks on the Roy Lewis, Earl Scruggs and Lizzy Long collaborative project.
